Voices of Hope

In Spring of 2022, Voice of Hope approached Media Collaboratory with the creation of a video promotional series dispelling myths about Harm Reduction as well as addiction, and how community partners such as Voices of Hope utilize harm reduction as well as other pathways in a commitment to helping participants build recovery capital and potentially save lives.

This project started during a politically charged nation debate around harm reduction, one that was unfortunately filled with a lot of misinformation. MC collaborated with VoH on a video campaign that would not only hopefully help clarify to a curious public just how viable harm reduction could be in helping individuals on a pathway to staying alive and recovering, but also present addiction and those whose have benefitted with a harm reduction pathway with a human face; these are people and their stories from all over the lived American and Kentucky experience, coming from a gamut of backgrounds and identities that do not fit neatly in any stereotype.

Media Collaboratory along with Voices of Hope helped script and design the overall video campaign as well as produce, film, and handle all of post-production. Interviews were filmed in our studio, with interviewees presented on the “clean slate” of our white cyc, so that viewers would be compelled to see the humanity behind harm reduction, addiction, and recovery. Media Collaboratory also produced several smaller videos touching upon several smaller topics and personal stories within the campaign to be show across social media and various education platforms.

We are proud to present this collaboration and hope the viewer learns not only about Voices of Hope and the topics discussed within, but a bit about our fellow humans so that we can learn to empathize just a little more.
