June 3-9th is Hemp History Week, and the premiere of our music video Return of the Plant! has been launched!
In the fall of 2018, we were approached by Dr. Bronner’s and the Hemp Industry Association to produce a music video to accompany a hemp-centric, groovy 90’s inspired song called Return of the Plant! and serve as the flagship launch content for Hemp History Week 2019.Driven by hip-hop influenced dance choreography and an updated appeal to galvanize new generations of hemp lovers, we were up to the task of wrapping production in the very short timeframe right before fall harvest and handling all of the logistical production challenges that one would expect to have while filming an entire choreographed dance sequence in a suprisingly hot fall weekend out in the middle of hemp field.
Filmed over two days with one pre-production day, we had our dancers and talent perform on a 12×12 dance floor laid out in a main aisle between two full rows of gorgeous hemp. We filmed exlusively with the Ronin-S, a small and light gimbal suited for this unique set-up. It’s a tool perfectly set for visually conveying youthful energy and dance.
A crew of seven along with three dancers and one other onscreen talent (Kentucky hemp activist and farmer, plus long time Media Collaboratory supporter and friend, Joe Hickey) passionately endured humidity, abnormally high temperatures, bugs, random rain storms, and a muddy dance floor to capture everything that was needed for a successful project.
Now, just in time for Hemp History Week, is the offical launch of the Return of the Plant! music video. Edited in Premiere and graded in Lumetri Color along with Film Convert, we couldn’t be more ecstastic for how this piece turned out, and we’re excited for a fresh take on how hemp is promoted and marketed in 2019.
We want to thank the crew for a job incredibly well done, and our wonderful customers and video sponsors for making this vision a reality. Enjoy!
